Dana Reizniece-Ozola

Former Latvian Economics Minister and Chess Champion 

An experienced government official in the Republic of Latvia, Dana Reizniece-Ozola was its minister of finance from 2016 to 2019. She previously spent two years as its minister of economics. As an elected member of the Saeima, Dana Reizniece-Ozola served on the Commission on Education, Culture and Science, Legal Affairs Commission, and European Affairs Commission. 

Dana Reizniece-Ozola has also held several board of governors positions with the European Union and international organizations. During her stint as Latvia’s minister of finance, she was involved with the European Investment Bank and European Stability Mechanism as well as the World Bank Group’s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency and Nordic Investment Bank. She holds an executive master’s degree of business administration from the International Space University in France. 

A distinguished chess player, Dana Reizniece-Ozola was the Latvian women’s national champion for four consecutive years from 1998 to 2001 and a two-time Girls Under 18 section winner at the European Youth Championships. She defeated Women’s World Chess champion Hou Yifan in the 42nd Chess Olympiad in 2016. As of 2021, Reizniece-Ozola is the managing director of the International Chess Federation.
